The Super Flacons flew out of the kitchen and landed on the football pitch in Bata. They landed on the heads of the Camerounian whom they dusted. Nigeria’s Super Falcons laboured to a 2-1 win over their Cameroonian counterparts in the opening match of the African Women’s Championship in Bata, Equatorial Guinea on Monday afternoon.
Earlier rainfall ensured the pitch at the Nkoantoma Stadium was hard for both Super Falcons and the Camerounians to secure a goal. Nigeria however shot into the lead through Onyinyechi Ohagugha at the end of the first half to give the defending champions the lead.
On resumption of the second half, Cameroon levelled the score line as Christiana Patience Mani equalised via a penalty kick.
Falcons struggled to take the lead and it was goal king
Perpetua Nkwocha who scored in the 89th minute to ensure Nigeria earned a 2-1
win.
In his post match comment, Super Falcons Manager, Kadiri
Ikhana, expressed optimism that the team will do better in subsequent matches.
