What Is Ricin?

Ricin is a naturally occurring protein, found in the castor oil plant, which is highly toxic. It can be inhaled or ingested but it is most dangerous when it is injected.

How Is It Produced As A Poison?

Various courts have heard detailed evidence of how ricin could be made. For obvious reasons, authorities are not keen on the full details being widely disseminated.

How Does It Get Into The Body?

It can be delivered through the air, in an aerosol spray, or it can be injected or swallowed.

Deaths from eating castor plant beans are rare, partly because the skin of the bean is indigestible. But the pulp from eight chewed beans is considered potentially fatal for an adult. One to three beans chewed by a child can be fatal.

How Potent Is It?

It is 6,000 times more poisonous than cyanide.

70 micrograms or two millionths of an ounce, roughly equivalent to the weight of a single grain of salt, can be enough to kill an adult. But terrorism expert Professor Paul Wilkinson told the BBC it was probably not possible to cause large numbers of casualties simply by spraying the substance into the air.

Ricin is estimated to be lethal at 70 micrograms for a person weighing 160lb if it is injected into the bloodstream. Experts say using ricin to cause mass casualties would probably require using it as an additive to food and drink.

Such methods would require extensive prior research, development, operational planning and testing, and are beyond the means of most terror groups.

Is There Any Treatment?

The UK military is reported to have developed an antidote, although it has not yet been tested on humans. An antidote developed by the US military has had some human testing.

But, generally, doctors can only treat a victim's symptoms and long-term organ damage is likely in survivors.

How Would Someone Know If They Were Affected?

The first symptoms depend on how the person has been exposed to ricin but can include fever, stomach upsets and coughing. If someone breathes the poison in, they could suffer serious lung damage eventually leading to heart failure.

If ricin gets into the digestive system, it can lead to irritation of the gut, gastroenteritis, bloody diarrhoea and vomiting. It can also affect the central nervous system and cause seizures.

It can be several days before the most serious problems develop.

What Other Cases Are There Of Ricin Being Used To Poison?

It was used during the Cold War, in 1978, to kill Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov in London. A man with an adapted umbrella shot a small pellet containing ricin into Markov's leg on Waterloo Bridge.

Traces of ricin have been found in caves used by Islamist militants in Afghanistan.

In 2003, the Metropolitan Police raided a flat in north London and arrested six Algerian men who they claimed were manufacturing ricin as part of a plot to launch a poison attack on the London Underground.

No ricin was recovered and only one person was convicted over the plot - a man who had previously received a life sentence for killing a policeman during another raid.

In February 2004, Senate office buildings in in Washington DC were closed after ricin-contaminated mail was found.

Does Ricin Have Any Positive Benefits?

Ricin is being studied to see if it could form the basis of cancer treatments. It is hoped it could be used to destroy malignant cells within the body.

Research Reveals Women Are More Attracted To Men With Heavily Endowed Genitals

Previous studies on women’s preferences for male genital size have been mixed, and even though it is the men who typically worry about the size of their own genitals, it is not unusual for women to prefer large-size male genitalia, even if it is up to a point.

But scientists have always argued that the old studies relied on questionnaires, which they say may not always provide honest answers.

However, it is now scientifically proven that size does, indeed, matter significantly because women tend to be more attracted to men with large genitals.

A new study by Australian researchers found that while the average woman rates the average man with large genitals more attractive, large genitals also give tall men a bigger attractiveness boost than shorter men.

A publication of the study result in the journal of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, however, notes that the returns on bigger genitals start to decrease at a flaccid penile length of 2.99 inches (7.6 centimeters).

The study suggests that women’s preferences for bigger male genitals could explain why human males have relatively big genitals for their body size.

In previous related studies, scientists only asked women to judge the attractiveness of male figures in photos with only penile size varied, when in fact no trait is ever evaluated in a vacuum.

But in the Australian study, researchers at the Australian National University, showed 105 young Australian women life-size computer-generated figures of nude men, varying the figures’ flaccid penile size, height and shoulder-to-hip ratio.

Height and shoulder-to-hip ratio have previously been shown as factors used by women to judge attractiveness. The computer simulations varied penile width in sync with length, so that all penises were proportional.

The results revealed that women preferred taller men as well as high shoulder-to-hip ratios (meaning that the wider the shoulders were than the hip, the more attractive the man).

Shoulder-to-hip ratio was a major determiner of attractiveness, accounting for 79.6 percent of the variation in hot-or-not ratings.

Though the effect was less extreme, women also preferred larger male organs, at least up to 5.1 inches (13 cm) flaccid, which was the largest computer-generated penile size in the study. Beyond 2.99 inches, however, the additional attractiveness per extra length started to decline.

When the researchers controlled for shoulder-to-hip ratio, they found that a larger penis had a greater effect on attractiveness for taller men, hinting that a larger penis just looked more proportional on a taller man’s body, the researchers wrote, or it could be that women were biased against shorter men to the extent that even large genitals didn’t help. Interestingly, women’s own features mattered as well. Researchers found that taller women were more likely to find taller men attractive. Women with greater body mass per height were slightly more likely than thinner women to weigh penile size more heavily in their judgments of attractiveness, though the difference was small.

Researchers say the findings might help explain why humans have remarkably large genitalia given their average body size.

It is a fact that male humans have the largest penises that any other primate species: For example, male gorillas can weigh as much as 180 kilograms, but their erect penis length is only about 1.5 inches (4 cm).

Human males weigh about half of what gorillas do, but studies peg average erect or flaccid-but-stretched penis length from 4.7 inches (12 cm) to 6.5 inches (16.7 cm).

Evolutionary biologists theorize that large human penises might help remove sperm from

competing males during sex, but in an era before clothing, women may have been drawn to mating with men whose genitalia caught their eye.

Men with larger penises, then, may have passed on their genes more readily, resulting in the large-genitals trait being handed down the generations.

In other words, males may have females to thank for their greater-than-gorilla-sized genitals.

Research Says Bras Make Breasts Saggier. Time To Go Braless!

Everyday study/research discovers something that refutes old facts.  Marilyn Monroe slept in a bra to keep her assets firm and perky, according to Hollywood lore. A new study out of France suggests it might have been more effective for the screen goddess to go "au naturel" instead.

Researchers spent 15 years studying the breasts of over 330 French women, and concluded that wearing a bra does not prevent sagging or ease back pain as commonly thought. "Medically, physiologically, anatomically—breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity, Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, from the University of Besançon, told France Info Radio. "On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra."


Taking measurements with a caliper, the researchers found that by not wearing a bra, muscles around the breast actually strengthened and the "nipple raised 7mm per year toward the shoulder." However, the scientists did not recommend all women abandon their bras since their muscles had probably already degraded.

Unbeleivable! Brazilian Doctor Killed 7 Patients To Free Up Hospital Beds

I thought doctors are trained to supposedly save lives but this particular doctor and her team did otherwise. A Brazilian doctor appeared in court for allegedly killing seven patients to free up hospital beds in the southeast city of Curitiba.

Virginia Helena Soares de Souza recruited a group of doctors to help administer lethal doses of anesthetics, sedatives and painkillers, according to authorities.

In addition, the group allegedly altered oxygen levels for patients, leading to deaths by asphyxiation, police said.

Seven other health care professionals have been charged in the case.

Prosecutors allege de Souza pulled the plug on victims against the wishes of patients and their families, and in so doing broke the law. She did that to free up beds in the ICU and clear up the "clutter" the patients were causing, according to police.

De Souza was arrested in February, but was later released until trial. Her court appearance Wednesday is part of mandated monthly appearances to avoid going back to jail.

Investigators say between 2006 and 2013, de Souza ordered medical professionals working under her at an intensive care unit to alter medication and oxygen levels.

In an interview with CNN affiliate TV Globo, Mario Lobato, the doctor tasked by the health ministry to investigate the case, said the number of deaths could be much higher.

Tired of China's pollution problem, a multimillionaire has begun a tongue-in-cheek campaign involving selling canned fresh air.

Chen Guangbiao, who made his fortune in the recycling business and is a high-profile philanthropist, handed out soda pop-sized cans of air, purportedly from far-flung, pristine regions of China such as Xinjiang in the northwest to Taiwan, the southeast coast.

"I want to tell mayors, county chiefs and heads of big companies: don't just chase GDP growth, don't chase the biggest profits at the expense of our children and grandchildren and at the cost of sacrificing our ecological environment", Chen said.

China's air quality is closely watched as it fluctuates dramatically from day to day but in recent weeks has registered far into the unhealthy zone.

Air pollution is measured in terms of PM2.5, or particulate matter 2.5 micrometers in diameter, which are absorbed by the lungs and can cause heart and lung disease. The World Health Organisation recommends a daily PM2.5 level of 20 and says that levels greater than 300 are serious health hazards.

Beijing's air quality frequently surges past a level of 500, and on January 12 soared to 755, the highest in memory.

"I go outside, walk for about 20 minutes, and my throat hurts and I feel dizzy", Chen told Reuters in an interview on a busy Beijing sidewalk.

Weight Loss Program Gone Horribly Wrong

Women and their wahala, hardly satisfied or feel secured with their body.

Weighing just four stone, extreme anorexic Valeria Levitin is thought to be the thinnest woman in the world. Her malnourished figure and matchstick-thin thighs should serve as a stark warning about the dangers of eating disorders.


But worryingly, Valeria says she gets FAN MAIL from girls desperate to copy her skeletal look. The 39-year-old says:

“I have received emails from young girls who want me to teach them how to be like me”. “All the letters I’ve had are from women, mainly in their twenties, who see me as some kind of inspiration."

“This is why I want to campaign against anorexia. I am not going to teach them how to die. It is not a game, it is not a joke, it is your life”.

Valeria, who developed her eating disorder as a teenager, has chosen to speak out about how the illness has ruined her life — and how she is desperate to win her battle in order to have a family.

“I want to share my story to help sufferers and their families from repeating my fate”, says Valeria, who is originally from Russia but now lives in Monaco. “I want young people to live happy, healthy and meaningful lives. Anorexia has made me lonely, unattractive and repulsive for the people around me.”
5ft 8in, Valeria’s weight should be between 9st and 12st, according to NHS advice. Instead she is a horrifying 4st 3lbs, less than HALF of what her lightest healthy weight should be.

At 16, and weighing 10st, Valeria moved to Chicago, USA, with her mum and stepdad. The move brought even more pressure to be slim.

She said: “The environment was very different. I wanted to be liked everyone and I thought that if I lost weight, I would be accepted”.

“I started cutting out certain foods from my diet — I wouldn’t eat sugar or carbohydrates”. “I became trapped in a vicious circle where I needed to lose more weight to feel happy with myself”.

“Now it’s almost impossible to put the weight I’ve lost back on because my body can’t process many foods”.

Valeria as a little girl

When a classmate made a cruel comment about Valeria’s figure, she became even more determined to lose weight.

She explains: “We were playing football and during the game a man said, ‘I know how we can win. We need to put Valeria’s big ar*e in the goal’. It shattered my whole world”.

By the time she was 23, Valeria’s dress size had plummeted from a healthy size 12 to a tiny size six. And attempts at getting into modelling only made matters worse — because she was told she was STILL too fat.

Valeria’s passion was ballet and she dreamed of becoming a dancer. But at 24, and weighing just 6st, she was banned from dancing over concerns she would injure herself.

For the next ten years she saw more than 30 health specialists, though once dipped to a dangerously low 3st 10lbs.

She says now:

“This disease is not about being cured by a doctor”. “It’s a deeper problem than that; it’s a lack of harmony between body and soul. I never gained any weight seeing specialists. I have never been hospitalised.

“The best cure I ever found was when I said to myself, ‘I’m going to recover”.

“I was feeling better and when you feel better your body starts to come back to normal. When you become healthier your body will start eating, not vice versa.

“You don’t force yourself to eat then become better, it’s not like that”.

Today she takes supplements to counter the risk of bruising and avoids situations where she could fall.

Now Valeria believes the solution could lie in moving back to Moscow. There is one incentive to get well again — having a baby via a surrogate. It is something she feels she can do if she can get herself healthy. “I think moving back to Moscow would help me once again feel at ease with myself”, she says.

 “I would love to have a family because I feel I have so much to give”. “But obviously it wouldn’t be right to have a baby when I am ill. It wouldn’t be fair on the child”.

“I want to stand up to anorexia. I’ve never given up on anything in my life and I’m not about to give up now”. “I must win, in order to feel that my life hasn’t been wasted”.

Unbelievable!! Man Breaks Penis During Sxx

Mehn who ever heard of broken penis? This is amazingly bizarre. According to TMZ, MMA fighter Ray Elbe – who competed on “Ultimate Fighter 9″ — had to be rushed to a hospital in Malaysia earlier this month… after he broke his penis during s*x; a condition that required 10 stitches to fix.

According to the fighter, he was having fun with his girlfriend who was “on top” … when she bounced a little too high, and crunched his erect manhood.

Elbe says the pain was so severe after the surgery, his johnson was "throbbing with each heart beat."

Elbe says he expects to make a full recovery -- and was ordered to take "anti-erection pills" for two weeks.

The fighter says he learned a hard lesson from the experience -- and will never let his GF be "on top" ever again. Elbe also explained, "In an attempt to make it up to me ... [my GF] has promised me a threesome of my choice when we get to the Philippines ... which usually has some solid talent."

Ray is expected to make  full recovery — and was ordered to take “anti-erection pills” for two weeks.

Word of advice, dont let your girlfriend bounce too high when they are on top of you during love making cuz they might just miss and break your precious peepee. Benue State's Oldest Man Evangelist Nehemiah Shawon Ndur Dies At 122

Eye brows including was raised when CNN named Besse Cooper, who died a few weeks ago at 116, as the oldest person in the world yeah right. How do they know that? Like they have accurate birth dates of everybody in the world. If they don’t know, why name her as the oldest?

However findings have revealed that the oldest man in Benue State, Nigeria, Evangelist Nehemiah Shawon Ndur has died at the age of 122. CNN you need to carry this news too.

According to the eldest son of the deceased, Mr. Gideon Iorwuese Ndur, the late centenarian passed on after suffering old age for several years. Gideon who disclosed this yesterday in Vandeikya Local Government Area said that he (late Ndur) was still talking until his glorious exit.

He added that the late Evangelist, was a dedicated Christian of the NKST church Uka, Mbawuar in Vandeikya LGA where he celebrated his 122 birthday, in February 2012, for making his dream come true as an apostle of Christ even at old age.

The bereaved man who said though the late father was committed to mother earth few days ago, he would be missed by the entire family especially for his exemplary lifestyle. Late Evangelist Nehemiah worked at NKST church Mbaakon with the head pastor, Pastor Ortese Bem in 1958 and translated the Holy Bible from English to Tiv language in 1964.

It was gathered that the late Nehemiah was born into the the family of Ndur Ajoko of Mbawuar in Vandeikya local government area of the state in 1890.

The deceased started his working career as a trainee evangelist in 1939 and was first sent to preach the message of God popularly called “waaji” with one of his close friends,Jam Gbeji, when they were baptized at NKST church in Jato-Aka, Kwande local government area of the state.

Nigerians Travelling Abroad To Take Polio Vaccine – WHO, What A Humiliation

Dr Ray Nihar, an official of the World Health Organisation (WHO) said in Kaduna on Thursday that Nigerians travelling abroad would be compelled to take the oral polio vaccine by May 2013.

Nihar said at the monthly review meeting of traditional rulers in Kaduna State involved in polio eradication campaign that WHO would issue a standing recommendation to all nations under the International Health Regulations.

He said children and adult travelling out of Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan must be certified as having been vaccinated against polio “to reduce the substantial risk of the virus spreading to polio-free countries”.

He said the report issued by the International Monitory Board on Polio revealed that “too many communities” regard polio vaccination as an imposition with no benefit. He said polio eradication was vital in affected countries, adding that neighbouring countries would not be safe.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Chairman, Kaduna State Action Committee on the Eradication of Polio, Alhaji Mustapha Jumare said insecurity and inaccessibility to certain areas had affected total coverage.

He also blamed vaccinators for laxity, thereby retarding efforts at ending the disease.

Also, the Chief of Kagoro, Mr Afuwai Bonet urged legislators to participate in the fight against polio in their respective constituencies.

Bonet said compelling Nigerians travelling abroad to take the vaccine would be an embarrassment to Nigeria including the legislators.

40 Yr Old Man Attempts Suicide Twice Because Of His Eye Problem

He really needs help with the eye problem. But taking his life is worst kinda help you need Taofeek.

Taofeek Muraina never had it good as a child. His adulthood is not even better. This, perhaps, explains why the 40-year-old bricklayer thought it wise to die rather than being put to shame by friends and neighbours.

Twice this year, he has attempted suicide. The first time, Punch Metro learnt, was about five months ago, while the second one was on December 5.

On December 5, he had wanted to poison himself when a neighbour arrived on time and raised the alarm.

Muraina has been battling with an acute eye condition since when he was a child. As he grows, his condition worsens, making life unbearable for him.

Explaining reasons for attempting suicide, he said, “Life is unbearable for me. I was born with an eye problem. My wife, Tawa, left me and dumped our 10-year-old son with me. I learnt that she has got married to another man.

“I attempted to commit suicide by poisoning myself while my son and neighbours were not at home but my landlady got home while I was preparing the mixture.

His landlady, Mrs. Aminat Oseni, who said that Muraina had been her tenant for five years, explained that it was the second time that he attempted taking his own life.

Oseni said, “He (Muraina) is a friend to my son, Fatai, who is a welder. My son appealed to me that we should accommodate him when he came begging for accommodation.

“According to him, he was sent packing by his former landlord on the ground that the landlord’s family wanted to make use of the apartment. But he said the landlord only ejected him because of his eye problem.”

Muraina, whose left eyeball gorge from the socket, said, “This is causing acute pain for me. I have been living in pain since I was born. It became worse during the crisis within the National Union of Road Transport Workers three years ago at Moniya. I was hit in my eyes by an object and since then it had been worse.”

His relatives, according to him, came with a promise that they would help him but they never showed up again.

Muraina’s landlady said, “When they saw him they burst out crying. They said that they would take him to the hospital but they could not do so for lack of funds.”

A Mass Communication Student of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Yusuf Oseni, said Muraina had not been having any medical attention as a result of poverty, adding, “That is why five months ago he attempted to commit suicide by hanging.

“Having tried all available means to help himself, he decided to take his own life. He has no money to treat himself in the hospital. He is alone with his problem. When he went to the University College Hospital, he was asked to pay N10m. 

Muraina, a resident of Gunwin Akingbile, Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State, said the excruciating pains he experienced on a daily basis had made life difficult for him.

He said, “I am a bricklayer and I mould blocks. People in the neighbourhood always make jest of me. I take native treatment because I cannot afford the cost of surgery.

“I decided to end it all because I could not afford the cost of surgery and no one wishes to help me. With my condition, I still manage to work to feed myself and my son but people hate me.”

Cross River State Agency for the Control of HIV and AIDS has acquired more than three million condoms for distribution at the Christmas Carnival village in Calabar. The Director-General of the agency, Dr. Irene Aniyom, told the News Agency of Nigeria at the village in Calabar on Sunday that the measure was to create more awareness on HIV and check the prevalence level.

She explained that the youths were targeted in the distribution of condom because they were the active participants at the annual carnival. She added that SACA and her partners would also offer free counselling and test on the scourge during the 32-day event.

Aniyom advised youths against using the festival as avenue for sexual activities, warning that “even if they should indulge in such practice, they should ensure that they use condom”. She said Calabar South Local Government Area and Calabar Municipality Local Government had the highest HIV and AIDS prevalence.

She said 244,106 persons in the state were currently living with the HIV and AIDS. She advised tourists and fun seekers patronising the festival village to avail themselves of the free counseling and test offered by the agency during the period.

“There is the need for people to take advantage of the testing and counselling to know their HIV status. This will enable them to control their excesses,” she said.

The SACA boss stated that Cross River was one of the states in the country that was making conscious effort to tackle HIV and AIDS.

“Gov Liyel Imoke is the Chairman of SACA in our state and he had done so much in supporting the agency. Whatever achievement we have made, we owe it to him,” she said
