CAN Blasts El-Rufai For Jesus Comment On Twitter

ABUJA—The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Wednesday, described recent statement linked to former Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Jesus Christ, as not only reckless but also indicative of deep-seated moral bankcruptcy.
El-Rufai had tweeted on January 28, that “if Jesus criticises Jonathan’s government, Maku, Abati or Okupe will say that he slept with Mary Magdalene”.
Addressing newsmen on the issue, CAN warned El-Rufai that “if he persists in such matters and making such divisive commentaries, he must prepare himself for a very forceful and vigorous reaction from the Church and the Christian community in Nigeria”.
Speaking through its General Secretary, Rev. Musa Asake, CAN warned that the “maturity and dignified restraint of the Christian populace, in the face of inflammatory and provocative statements, should not be taken as licence for unbridled assault.
“We urge his religious leaders and political associates to advise him to be far more sobre and circumspect and put a padlock on his mouth before he lights the candle that sets ourcountry on fire.
Mallam El- Rufai

“On our part, we urge the Christian community and our Christian youths to continue to be restrained and always seek peace, love and harmony, in spite of the provocations that they are facing from the likes of Nasir El-Rufai and those he represents.
“We must not allow him to turn Nigeria into a cauldron of fire by his reckless, bigoted and twisted commentaries about our Lord or our faith and we must view him for exactly what he is, a failed, desperate, hate-filled and drowning politician, who is now stoking embers of religious division to create a political base for himself amongst his people.

“Nigeria has no place for a religious bigots who delight in insulting the Christian faith.
“We urged the Federal Government to call Nasir El-Rufai to order and not to overlook the possibility that his joke was not only contrived but was actually calculated to create an even greater wedge between Christians and Muslims with the attendant consequences.
“Had it not been for the maturity, fortitude, patience, decency, forgiving nature and deep sense of restraint that themajority of Christians have in our country, El-Rufai would not have been safe anywhere in Nigeria today after cracking suchan expensive joke.”

El Rufai Speaks On President Jonathan's Independence Day Speech

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday, described President Goodluck Jonathan’s 52nd Independence Anniversary speech as 18 minutes of false claims. El-Rufai also picked holes with the one year prayer project the President flagged off, stressing that rather than engage Nigerians and spend money on the project, President Jonathan must deliver on dividends of democracy by providing the needed infrastructure for Nigerians to enjoy.

El-Rufai, who noted that the broadcast lacked substance, said: “Is it at all possible to react to nothing? The speech was 18 minutes of false claims of accomplishments no one can see or feel, and promises that no one believes will be fulfilled.

“That is the tragedy of our nation today. That is why a country which constitution does not recognise any ‘state religion’ has resorted to a year of publicly-funded prayer project, instead of the harder work of providing inclusive leadership, honesty and integrity by example.”

Also commenting on the broadcast, Senator Domingo Obende, ACN, Edo North, noted that speeches might sound good and were semantics. But stressed that what was required was action. He urged Jonathan to wake up to the challenges of governance, while sympathising with him against the backdrop that Nigeria is a complex country with myriad of problems.

President Jonathan Sponsored Boko Haram To Cover Up Corruption"...El-Rufai Tells BBC

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Nasir el-Rufai yesterday alleged the Federal Government of being responsible for the continuous bombing in the Northern states region.

El-Rufai who made this accusation while granting an interview with “BBC” said that government’s involvement was a diversionary measure.

He alleged that Jonathan always ordered Boko Haram to embark on bombings, whenever corruption in his government was about to expose to the masses......Eh en, continue reading jare. Thank God they know themselves.

“This will assist the government to change the attention of the masses on the Boko Haram’s activities rather than anxiously waiting to protest or sue the government for corruption” He said.

He recalled that Boko Haram engaged on daily basis bombings when the report of House of Representatives Committee on fuel subsidy came out.

He said,“We have to start accusing the government because anytime we are in this problem, like when the Farouk committee in the House of Representatives came out with its report on the fuel subsidy scam, at that time they started coming out with bombs all over.

“Therefore….we keep on asking the government : ‘ why is it whenever they have problem, that is when those they call Boko Haram will start bombing. Or are they working together?

“They are yet to give us an answer; there are many other things which up till now, there is no explanation. Every Nigerian knows that two years ago, there was rest of mind and he could sleep well at home. But today, there is no rest of mind, things have deteriorated.

“The economy has deteriorated; salaries are delayed in the Federal Civil Service. Since I left Abuja last week, April salary was not paid. That of March was paid in May, even the monthly allocation to states, they were unable to pay. We don’t know where the money is going so the economy is in trouble”.

The former Minister also alleged that the federal government has been receiving $1billion loans on every months.

He urged the masses to visit the website of the Debt Management Office (DMO) to verify his claim.

“We calculated and I wrote on it in the paper, nobody came out to say it is not true. Every month since Jonathan became the President, on the average, every month he takes $1 billion loan.

The Debt Management Office published it, it is a government office. So, I am not just saying it. Even last month, the Federal Government sold bond,”

But reacting to this, the political adviser to the President, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak dismissed the allegation, saying it is callous and unreasonable.

He urged Nigerians not to take the allegations of the former minister seriously as they were baseless and not true.

He described the allegations as “just an outburst from the opposition camp which cannot hold water. It is the figment of his imagination, it is not true.

“Every right thinking person will not listen to that and will never agree with what El-Rufa’i is saying. This is because they are so extreme in their opposition. For example, ministers came out some days ago and they reeled out all the achievements and successes of governments.

“In the next two months, you will see trains shuttling between Lagos and Northern Nigeria, God willing. Everybody knows that road construction is on. Is that not so? Look at the education sector, we have gone far”.
