Super Talented Singer Lauryn Hill Sentenced To 3 Months In Prison

The 37 year old, Grammy-winning hip hop star and singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison for failing to pay taxes over $1million, she earned from 2005 to 2007. Hill explained she had always meant to eventually pay the taxes but was unable to when she dropped out of the music business.

It's not clear when report to prison. Hill has a lot of mouths to feed back home. She has five children with Rohan Marley, son of Bob, and a sixth with another man.

Tony Okoroji And Kenny Ogungbe Face Off At Entertainment Confab

First ever Nigerian Entertainment Conference held over the weekend at the Grand ball room of the Eko Hotel and suites, Victoria Island, Lagos was nearly marred by violent exchange of words between Kennis Music Boss Mr. Kenny Ogungbe and Chairman of Copyright Society of Nigeria COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji.

Chief Tony Okoroji had confronted Kenny Ogungbe in the presence of journalists for daring to say in public that COSON owed him (Kenny Ogungbe) money.

"How could he say such a thing? And in public?" Chief Okorogie fumed.

Kenny Ogungbe on his part remained resilient, insisting he would stand by his words. They exchanged hot, abusive words impossible to publish including the F word as they were pulled apart by concerned friends who feared the brawl may soon go physical.

Kenny Ogungbe went on to say "After now, if anything happens to me, it is on your head"

The incident happened immediately after the first session of the conference where Mr. Kenny Ogungbe had been amongst a panel of discussants along side Cool DJ Jimmy Jat, Sound Sultan, MI and Weird MC during which pertinent industry issues had been raised.

The panel before taking questions from participants discussed "Looking at the music scene through the eyes of talents, labels, investors, consumers, regulatory bodies. The role of an artiste in the digital age and lastly, surviving in a peculiar industry like Nigeria.

However Weird MC in her opening had raised questions on the "exploitation of our works". She noted that the music industry is no longer about just entertainment but a business that should be accounted for. She claimed that music properties of artistes were being exploited with no form of payments made as settlements.

Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) is Nigeria's sole government approved collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings. Weird MC specifically asked the society if they had any kind of international affiliations with international music copyright regulatory bodies to help check the exploitation of works put out by Nigerian artistes.

According to her "We need to address the International Affiliations involved cause this is a business.

Kenny Ogungbe had stepped out after the panel to re-emphasis these statements made by Weird MC to reporters before making the comments that infuriated Chief Okoroji.

After the heated argument, both were too angry to speak further on the testy issue.

How Did You Delve Into Music?

During my university days, I was a member of a minor musical group called the “MASE” comprising of four young talents. We used the first alphabet of their names to coin out the name, “MASE”. My exploits with the group helped to expose me as well as sharpen my musical skills to a great extent.

Music for me is something I’ve always wanted to do. I just wanted the right time to get into it and I believe this is the right time.

Early This Year, You Posed Semi-Nude In A New York Based Magazine. What Was The Attraction?

It actually got leaked. I did some modelling jobs while I was in New York and at that point in time, some pictures leaked while the process was still going on. Yes, I posed for some shots, but I never really posed nude. I didn’t expose my private part as a woman. That I exposed my skin doesn’t mean I posed nude. I am an architect by training and creativity is part of my daily routine. So, I didn’t pose nude because I didn’t expose my private part.

We Learnt, You Were Paid Handsomely For The Job?

Officially, I was paid the sum of $200,000 and a G Wagon Mercedes Benz car for the photo spread in the magazine.

I have never for once regretted anything I have done in the past. But at the end of the day, I just want people to believe in me that I have got a lot to offer to my fans.

Rick Ross Bitter Over Losing Reebok Deal

Next time watch what you say in a song. All the drug, violence, gangsta, etc lyrics has to stop for real.
Rick Ross is disappointed over losing his Reebok deal because of the date rape song but he's also bitter because he believes the shoe company owed him a second chance.

Sources close to the rapper tell TMZ ... Ross will lose between $3.5 million and $5 million ... he was getting a check each time he wore the shoes.

Reebok dumped Ross for releasing the song U.O.E.N.O., which includes the lyric: "Put Molly [Ecstasy] all in the champagne. She ain't even know it. I took her home and I enjoy that. She ain't even know it."

Ross issued a tepid apology suggesting the lyrics were actually misinterpreted. He also pulled the song which was only on a mixtape.

But that wasn't enough for Reebok, which was taking heat from women's groups for keeping Ross in its stable of spokespeople.

Ross is telling people he was entitled to corporate forgiveness because he did so much for the brand bringing classic Reeboks back in style in the hip-hop community.

But Reebok was unmoved, saying, "We are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse."

Project Fame 5 Winner, Ayoola Debuts Two New Singles

This guy's afro beat version performance of Olufumi by StylPlus was the height of MTN Project Fame West Africa (Season 5) for me. Months after he won the coveted MTN Project Fame West Africa (Season 5) music competition, Ayobami Ayoola Ayolola, has debuted with two singles, For You and Amin. The latter, featuring Vector, is a danceable gospel song, while the former, produced by MasterKraft, is R&B.

Ayoola, who won the contest last October, was widely expected to hit the big time sooner. However, he explained that he had to take his time to work on the songs so that they could meet the high expectations of his fans. Amin, one of the cuts he released a few days ago, was produced by Legendury Beats, which produced Ara by Brymo, Emi Ni Baller (Chidinma), Azonto (WizKid), Koma Roll (Tillaman), Baddest Boy (EME All Stars) and Catching Cold (Tunde Ednut).

Ayoola, a Biochemistry graduate of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, is expected to hit location soon for the video of Amin. It will be directed by Clarence Peters.

Nigerian Entertainment: Davido And Manager Asa Asika Part Ways

After almost two years of working together, Davido, 20, and his manager Asa Asika, 22, (center) have parted ways. They reportedly ended their working relationship a few days back but none of them have said anything about it yet, though they've both changed their Twitter bios.

Few years back hit singles like "Olufumi" and "Runaway" made top of the  R & B Charts in Nigeria, with fame and popularity rising for the group singers Styl-Plus. But today, Rhipplemedia have gathered from a good source that the group broke up finally.

The R&B group, which comprised of Shifi, Zeal and Tunde, have struggled to recapture the success they achieved with their debut album, which had tracks like ‘Run away’, ‘Olufunmi’, etc. Their second album ‘Unbreakable’ and new singles did not get much attention like their first album.

Tunde, a member of the group has decided to go solo, re-branding himself as NativeBoy.

We also gathered that he has recorded several songs alone and set up his own record label, B.A.T Records.
