Court Sentences Man To 45 Years Imprisonment For Stealing Governor’s N50,000 Phone

Criminals are running wild on the streets and we have judicial criminals running wild too. If this judge lands this man 45 year jail term for stealing the state governor's N50,000 worth phone, how many centuries will he sentence the said state governor for looting the state dry? Im not saying theft should go unpunished but sentence should commensurate with crime. This is pure injustice.

A 31-year old ex-policeman, Kelvin Ighodalo has been sentenced to 45-year imprisonment by an Osogbo High Court for stealing a N50,000 Sony Ericsson phone belonging to Governor Rauf Aregbesola. Mr Ighodalo had stolen the phone from the Governors pocket on November 27, 2010, when he was being inaugurated at Government Technical College, Osogbo.

Justice Oyejide Falola, who precided over the case, found the accused guilty on six counts, which included conspiracy, stealing and fraud. Justice Falola thereafter sentenced Mr Ighodalo to 10-year imprisonment for the first three counts and five years for each of the last three which included impersonation, obtaining property by falsehood and collusion.

The Judge explained that the convict deserved the sentence and held that the convict used the phone to obtain N500, 000 from the Owa of Ilesa, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, while he obtained N200, 000 from Shengen Rahman, an associate of the governor.

Mr Ighodalo will run the jail term concurrently and so will only spend a total of 10 years in prison. During the hearing, the assistant principal state counsel, Biodun Badiora, also disclosed that the convict had served six-year imprisonment in Ikoyi prison custody in connection with a murder case in 2005.

Irate Policeman Stripped Naked Protesting Unpaid Salary

Frustration is a terrible path you don’t want to thread, it can drive you insane. A police constable, Leke Obaba, on Thursday evening stripped himself naked at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, to protest over his unpaid salary.

The police officer, who told newsmen that he joined the police force in 2003, complained that he had not been given his salary since he started working with the force.

“You won’t believe that I have no access to my account since I was demobilised from the Mobile Police Force, MOPOL, 53 Akwa Ibom State. For over 11 years I have worked I was not paid any salary. I was later transferred from Kaduna Command to Lagos last year. Though when I was in Kaduna I was taken to a psychiatric hospital, I have wife and children, how do I feed them?”

When contacted, the Provost Marshal of the Command said there was nothing he could do about it.

It was also gathered that the constable had earlier been detained but later freed so that he will not disturb suspects in the cell.

A police source at the command said the constable was transferred to Lagos last year, but another police source was skeptical about the constable, saying that he has not seen him before and that he poses a danger to other officers at the command because of his unruly behaviour.

“I’m seeing this man for the first time in my life. If they eventually give him a gun, I hope he will not kill the whole people at the command,” a police officer said.

When contacted the Lagos Command Police Public Relations Officer,a Deputy Superintendent of Police Mrs.Ngozi Braide did not pick her call.

Mean Church Worshipper Gives Used Condom As Offering In Church

To most Christians, the offering time is, indeed, a time of immense financial blessing. But recently, the offering time turned into a moment of hot curses in a Lagos church when an already used condom, dripping with semen, was discovered inside the offering box after the Sunday service.

It was like a weird dream, according to the former Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Ogba Zone, Prophet Tobi Okonkwo, who witnessed the incident. The cleric said he couldn’t believe his eyes when a discarded condom, with stains, was discovered in an envelope in the offertory box of his former church.

When Pope Paul VI warned on June 29, 1972 that the smoke of Satan had entered the church, not many Christians took the warning seriously.

With this recent incident, Okonkwo admitted that the agents of darkness had infiltrated the churches in large numbers and now occupy high-ranking positions in the gathering of God’s children, where they wreak untold havoc on the unwary flock.

Okonkwo, who is also the General Overseer of Living Word Prayer Assembly, Agege, Lagos, wept over man’s ingratitude to God during a recent monthly thanksgiving programme of the church, tagged Manna from Heaven.

Although the service was a joyful moment where the shepherd distributes food items and other gifts to his flock, his startling revelation brought a hush of silence on the congregation.

His words pierced the hearts of the worshippers, as he explained how man had become ungrateful to divine benevolence. His several instances of the atrocities committed in hallowed places pointed to the fact that messengers from hell now walked about freely in hallowed places. “It is really bad.

It has got to a point where some people come to the church to mock God. They are anti-Christ but they still go to church. You could imagine how somebody came to the church and decided to give a used condom in an envelope to God.

You can see how wicked man has become,” he said. Okonkwo said the giver of the abominable gift refused to confess his crime, even when the entire church rained curses profusely on whosoever was responsible.

He said, “A curse was laid on the person. Even before the people laid the curse, God had already seen the abomination committed in his house by someone, who pretended he came to the church to worship God.”

The former PFN leader warned other members of the church of the reality of the anti-Christ, whose reign would usher ungodliness in the world. He lamented that prosperity message has taken over the pulpit at the neglect of the gospel of repentance, which had enslaved many hearts in pleasure and love of the world.

According to him, most Christians hunger for sermons that promise easy wealth, while rejecting teachings that encourage chastity, discipline, endurance and faithfulness.

“The style of the anti-Christ is to mock Jesus. Many Christians today are crucifying Christ a second time. It’s really sad and unfortunate,” he said. The cleric decried the approval of same sex marriage by different countries, describing the constitutional recognition accorded to such couples as an indication of the reign of anti-Christ in the world.

Rather than milk his members dry, Okonkwo said he introduced a programme, Manna from Heaven, to feed the flock of Christ with the little he could afford. He said the programme involved sharing of bags of rice, noodles and other foodstuff on equal measures to all the members to inculcate in them the love for sharing and concern for their suffering neighbour.

Okonkwo also berated some pastors who, according to him, start Christian ministries and involve themselves in dubious things all in a bid to acquire wealth and fame. He said such ones worship money as their god. “For them to get money, they end up preaching prosperity.

Salvation messages are not often on their lips. The church is not supposed to be a business but most people have turned it into a business.

It is quite unfortunate,” he said. Aside the sacrileges committed in churches, Okonkwo, who had earlier predicted the emergence of Jonathan as President during the ailing days of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, also frowned at the various scandals rocking political offices and other sectors of the economy.

He said most Nigerians have lost the sense of sanity, citing the many cases of corruption in the country. According to him, no day passes without the disclosure of one fresh set of financial scandal or the other.

He lamented that the financial blood of the country was being drained by some thieving elite with no interest of the masses at heart. Although Okonkwo foreclosed the chances of possible disintegration of the country, he warned corrupt leaders to repent or face the wrath of heaven.

According to him, only selfless leaders would bring the nation back from the brink of monumental crisis and repair the ruins caused by corruption and bad leadership in the country.

Sexual Abuse: Pastor In Court For Defiling A Minor

An Omu-Aran Upper Area Court, Kwara, on Thursday admitted a cleric, Kunle Odafe, to N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum for allegedly defiling a minor.

Odafe, 31, a pastor who lives at Obagunke Area, Omu-Aran, had earlier been refused bail on his arraignment on April 12 on a one-count charge of gross indecent act to which he had pleaded guilty.

He was ordered to be remanded in Omu-Aran Medium Prison by the Judge Fagbemi Adeyemi for the police to conclude their investigation.

Adeyemi said the pastor’s action constituted a nuisance to the society, adding that Odafe ought to be an exemplary leader and a role model.

“How on earth will you involve yourself in such an ignoble act of defiling a girl whose life you are expected to shape?

“You are hereby remanded in prison for the police to conclude their investigation.”

Ruling on the bail application, Adeyemi said he reconsidered Odafe for bail because he was a first offender and did not waste the time of the court.

“The case of indecent act, especially when it involves a minor, is not ordinarily a bailable offence under the Penal Code.

“I granting you bail because you did not waste the time of the court and also as a first offender.

“You should therefore change your attitude for the better,” Adeyemi said.

He adjourned the case till May 7 for sentencing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Fabiyi Abiodun, had told the court that Odafe, attached to St. Moses Orimolade C&S Movement Church, Omu-Aran, committed the act between April 2 and April 9.

He said one Olajide of Obagunke Area, Omu-Aran, had on April 3 reported that a 12-year-old girl was missing.

Abiodun said police investigation led to the discovery of the girl in the custody of Odafe, who also confessed to have had unlawful carnal knowledge in contravention of Section 285 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending the conclusion of investigation into the case.

“The uncooperative attitude of the accused could jeopardise police investigation if granted bail,” he had said.

FRATRICIDE: Two Sisters Hack Their Brother To Death In Calabar

What a horrible thing to hear. Two sisters (names withheld) have been detained by the Police in Calabar, Cross River State for allegedly hacking their eldest brother, Kokoette Effiom Effiong, to death.

The two were alleged to have attacked Kokoette with sticks and machetes in a fight which ensued following disagreement over the sharing of proceeds from the sale of their late father’s land at Akpabuyo.

The incident which happened, weekend, at Ikot Nakanda, according to a family source, left the deceased with deep machete cuts in the head inflicted by the two sisters which led to his death.

“The man had deep cuts in the head and arm inflicted by Idak and Ikwo during a fight in the bush behind our house,” Otop Idebe, Kokoette’s cousin said.

“They claimed that their brother had made so much money from the sale of their father’s land while they were away and so when another parcel was sold they demanded that the money be shared equally among all the surviving children and when their brother objected, they were not happy which led to the fight.”

However, Idak one of the suspects, told Vanguard: “On that fateful day, we were told that Kokoete gave the names of three of us, including one of our siblings, Efangha, to a native doctor for money rituals.

“So when he came to our kitchen to cook cocoyam, we warned him not to use our kitchen again because we did not like sharing a kitchen with any man, besides that he sold our father’s land and had the gut to keep the money to himself without giving us our share.”

Giving a graphic account of how the man was killed, she said: “Kokoette insisted on using the kitchen and a quarrel ensued and while still exchanging words, Kokoette went to the toilet in the bush behind the compound and Ikwo followed him with a big stick and a machete. After a short while, I heard Kokoette screaming, so I ran to the place to stop them only to see Ikwo using the machete on him.”

Ikwo, in her statement to the police, said something different, noting that it was the deceased that trailed her to the bush, where she went to stool and they started a fight.

The suspects were arrested by the police in Ikot Nakanda in Akpabuyo and transferred t

o the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Diamond Hill in Calabar.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. John Imoh (DSP) said they would be charged to court after the police had concluded investigation on the matter.

Plateau State Violence, 2 Killed 30 Houses Burnt

Mayhem has once been unleashed in wave of violence that gripped  Dakum and Jol villages in Plateau last Friday. Two persons were confirmed killed and at least 30 houses were razed on Friday night in Dakum and Jol villages in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded the areas.

Over 1,000 persons were also said to have been displaced.

The new onslaught came barely 24 hours after the Special Task Force, said about 17 people were killed while 25 cows were either stolen or killed in the same area in the past one week.

Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen invaded the village in the late hours of the day, killing and setting houses ablaze.

The Majority Leader in the state House of Assembly and Member representing Riyom Constituency, Mr. Daniel Dem, on Saturday, decried the spate of attacks in the village, adding that in the past one week, Riyom had been held hostage.

Dem, who described the situation as bad, said the villagers had fled the community for their safety.

He said, “We are tired of this kind of events, as I am talking to you now, arrangement is being made to mobilise riot policemen to the area to collaborate with STF operatives and beef up security.

“Sincerely, I want the security agencies to be up and doing to ensure that permanent peace is restore to the area,” he said.

The lawmaker called on the National and State Emergency Management Agencies to visit the affected villages and supply relief material to the displaced people.

“We don’t know what we are going to do now, the entire village with over 1,000 population has been displaced, their homes have been burnt down completely by the suspected Fulani. We really need the attention of the Federal Government,” he said.

Dem said the displaced villagers were taking refuge at Hoss Primary School while some had fled to Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Wife Murders Husband, Sets His Body On Fire And Flees With Their Son

When this young man Kenneth Peter Anayo was taking a vow to love his wife for better or worse,......till death do them part, little did he know that the wife will be the death that will do them part. Its so horrible the dark evil people are capable of doing.

A housewife, Mrs Esther Peter has allegedly murdered her husband, Kenneth Peter Anayo, and set the remains on fire.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday at their home at NEPA Phase I Road, off Bada Abawonlo Street, Ijagemo in Iba Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
Some of their neighbours said the late Kenneth, a notorious Indian hemp seller and smoker in the area and his wife were always fighting during which they used dangerous weapons.

They alleged that the couple had a quarrel last Saturday when Kenneth alleged that his wife, a mother of one, aborted a four-month old pregnancy.

It was gathered that during the fight over the alleged abortion, Esther stabbed Kenneth with a broken bottle on his leg. While he was bleeding profusely, he was rushed to a nearby clinic where he was treated and discharged later that day.

However, neighbours said they noticed the couple’s room was on fire at about 2.30 a.m. on Tuesday, yet the door was padlocked. And when the door was forced opened, the charred body of Kenneth was seen inside the fire. But Esther, a mother with her son was not around.

A search party was organised by landlords at NEPA Phase I Road , Ilemeji before Esther was seen at about half a kilometre away from the scene of the incident.

According to an eyewitness, Alhaji Hamzat Tajudeen, Esther was arrested around Ashipa area with her belongings in a ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag, ready to escape with her son who is about two years old.

People nearly mobbed Esther when they saw the burnt remains of Kenneth which was lying in a way that suggested that he had died before the house was set on fire.

The deceased laid on his back with no sign that he struggled before the fire killed him.

American Senators Passes Resolution On Chinua Achebe

The Senate of New York State, in the United States has passed a resolution paying tribute to acclaimed author Chinua Achebe.

In the resolution, the Senate said , Professor Achebe’s global significance lies not only in his talent and recognition as a writer, but also as a critical thinker and essayist who has written extensively on questions of the role of culture in Africa along with the social and political significance of aesthetics and analysis of the post colonial state in Africa.

The New York Senate noted that Achebe left behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended.

The Legislative Body paused in its deliberations to mourn the death of the famous novelist just as it promised to present a copy of its resolution to the Achebe’s family.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to the lives of those esteemed individuals of international renown who distinguished themselves through their life’s work; and

WHEREAS, Foremost novelist, Professor Chinua Achebe, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the age of 82; and

WHEREAS, Born Albert Chinualumogu Achebe, on November 16, 1930, Chinua Achebe was a Nigerian novelist, poet, professor, and critic; he was best known for his 1958 novel, THINGS FALL APART, selling over 12 million copies around the world, and having been translated into 50 languages, making him the most paraphrased African writer of all time; and

WHEREAS, Raised by his parents in the Igbo town of Ogidi in southeastern Nigeria, Chinua Achebe excelled academically and earned a scholarship for undergraduate studies; he became fascinated with world religions and traditional African cultures, and began writing stories as a college student; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Chinua Achebe worked for the Nigerian Broadcasting Service (NBS) and soon moved to the metropolis of Lagos; he gained worldwide attention for THINGS FALL APART; his later novels include: NO LONGER AT EASE (1960), ARROW OF GOD (1964), A MAN OF THE PEOPLE (1966), and ANTHILLS OF THE SAVANNAH (1987); and

Northern Muslim Youths Warns MEND And Vows To Retaliate If MEND Bombs Mosques

First of all, are “Northern Muslim Youths” all “Boko Haram” members?

Enraged by last Sunday’s threat by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, to commence bombing of mosques and killing of Muslim clerics as from May 31 over the terror campaign and killing of Christians by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, northern youths yesterday, promised to deal a deadly blow on the militants should they carry out its devilish plan even as former agitators and clerics in the Niger-Delta differed on planned attack.

Although the Arewa youths did not specify their mode of retaliation, they warned MEND not to arrogate to itself the monopoly of violence.

The northern youths’ warning was handed down by the National President of the Arewa Youths Forum, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Gujungu in Abuja.

Gujungu made it clear that the threat by MEND would not in any way deter northerners and other Nigerians from fighting back should they attempt to make real their threat.

The AYF leader said,”the most recent threat by MEND is indeed, unfortunate, callous and counter-productive, especially coming at a time when patriotic Nigerians are making strident effort and sacrifices to resolve the current security challenge.

“MEND, as usual, is putting spanners in the works for unpatriotic selfish economic benefits. It is painful that these elements are threatening more violence despite the colossal amount being paid their leadership and the training of Niger Delta youths abroad by the Federal Government to the obvious disadvantage of other Nigerian youths outside the region.

“MEND and its members are hereby warned that they do not have monopoly of ideas, strength or ability. The youths of the north and other Nigerians are united and shall face them to truncate any of their threats which are aimed at separating Nigerians along religious or ethnic divides for their selfish economic goals.

“It is very sad and mind boggling to note that instead of supporting and ensuring that President Jonathan succeeds in finding a lasting solution to the present security challenge in the north, MEND has re-opened another insecurity theatre in the Niger Delta to cause distraction and make him fail.

“The obvious disrespect, which MEND shows to President Jonathan as not being among those they respect enough to intervene in the ongoing debacle, is food for thought, to say the least,” Gujungu noted.

Some ex-leaders of the militant group contacted by Vanguard, yesterday, opted to keep sealed lips with one of  them, saying, “You know our position on this matter. As far as we concerned, MEND is dead, those threatening anything in the name of MEND are paper tigers.”

However, the spokesperson of the defunct Niger-Delta Liberation Force, NDLF, “Captain” Mark Anthony, threw his weight behind the planned action by MEND, while a prominent activist, Mr. Augustine Ogedengbe, cautioned against retaliatory attacks by any group from the region.

In the words of “Captain” Anthony, “If MEND can carry out their threat, it will be a welcome development, the Christians Boko Haram roasted with bombs in hundreds are human beings. While we were in the creek, we made preparations to pay Boko Haram in their own coin, but Niger-Delta politicians pleaded with us never to carry out operations in the land.

“Now, my hands are tied as Federal Government has granted me amnesty and my group, NDLF, and I have sworn to an oath never to engage in violence. I am now a toothless bulldog and cannot bite,” he said.

Rev Usifo, who opposed the plan by MEND to take up the gauntlet for Christians said, “They should not burn mosques and kill Muslim clerics, I am not in support of that. But I want to say that Christians should arm themselves and also seek the services of security agencies to guard their churches. In a situation where people come to attack them and burn their churches, they should defend themselves”.

Activist, Mr. Ogedengbe, said he would want MEND and any other group claiming to represent Niger-Delta to be mindful of the fact that Boko Haram was fashioned to frustrate the Federal Government, headed by a Niger-Deltan and carrying out reprisal action could precipitate more bloodbaths.

Nigeria is heading for disintegration unless ——Southern Mandate

Meanwhile, the Southern Mandate has warned that sponsors of the sect must halt their activities forthwith, or else the insurgency will plunge Nigeria into disintegration.

The group said in a statement issued in Abuja, yesterday, that the sustained explosions were targeted at discrediting the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“We foresee that there are no two ways about it –the consequence of Boko Haram’s present activities is the disintegration of our dear country in the near future”.

“In the circumstances, we wonder why some Nigerians could still regard Boko Haram as an enemy only to President Jonathan and his government. However, it is time to tell ourselves the bitter truth: the earlier all Nigerians from the North and South realize and confront Boko Haram as a common enemy, the better for the unity of Nigeria”, the group said in the statement signed by the group’s President-General and South/South Coordinator,  Tito Zuokumor and Dr. Wilson Omene, respectively.

The group condemned those who blame President Jonathan for the prevailing insecurity without considering the attendant result of sitting on the fence and allowing sectional violence as a tool to score political goals, with which some political figures have been identified.

“Let the truth be told that there is no region or ethnic nationality in Nigeria that is weak. The West, East and South-south all have the capacity to create a similar scenario of deliberate insecurity in their zones to make any administration ungovernable just to score political points.

“And if such acts of artificial insecurity are perpetrated by a group or groups of persons from a part of the country without resolvable aims and objectives other than to waste innocent lives just to deny a particular region the right to attain the presidency or complete the constitutionally stipulated tenure of office, then we have got to check ourselves, apply restraint in whatever we do, and not acting with impunity as is presently the case with some self-seeking politicians fuelling the Boko Haram activities. Otherwise, we are all heading for the doomsday.

“We are all not unaware of the political aim of Boko Haram, but we fail to see beyond the kite which the group and their sponsors are flying in the air and progressively piloting us to disintegration”, Southern Mandate insisted.

It added that “the serial bomb explosions and death of innocent Nigerians are receiving applause from certain quarters today because those behind the barbaric acts believe they are winning the battle against Dr. Jonathan’s presidency, unmindful of the fact that they are laying landmines for the nation’s disintegration.

“The determination of a few selfish individuals seeking the highest political office to “do everything possible, whether good, bad or terrible to unseat President Jonathan” for fear of becoming too old to occupy the presidency if Dr. Jonathan is allowed to remain in office for two terms, must be stopped”.

The group urged all good-spirited Nigerians to support the federal government in tackling the present menace in order to avoid similar bombs exploding from other parts of the country tomorrow.

It claimed that Nigeria’s unity was being preserved by the petro-dollars from crude oil in the Niger Delta region and that the people of that region had borne the brunt of oil production for several decades in the interest of the entire nation.

Destination of all suicide bombers is hell——Sheik Gumi

In a related development, renowned Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Mahmud Gumi has said hell is the destination of all suicide bombers. The cleric, in a sermon monitored yesterday pointed out that while young men commit suicide, they ought to reflect that those leaders who send them to their deaths do not commit suicide or send their children to die in the same way.

Gumi who has been critical of the Boko Haram sect, said in the sermon: “The prophet said the way to Paradise is easy for those that follow his path. Despite this ease of entering Paradise, those that commit suicide for whatever reason have guaranteed for themselves the Hell Fire forever”.

According to him, “People are forbidden to wish for death talks less of committing suicide. Islam is a practicable religion. Whoever therefore will be taken by fanaticism or sickness or depression to kill himself, he has condemned himself to eternity in the hell fire”.

He stressed that whoever will explode himself with explosives for whatever reason or disguise will also continue to be in his explosion in hellfire forever, stressing that this is what the hadith teaches.  Suicides, he warned, are tormented by the same means they employ to kill themselves.

“Today we see young men killing themselves with explosives in the name of Jihad yet they never reflect that those ‘leaders’ that send them to such adventure never commit suicide nor send their children to commit it.”

Terrorism: Boko Haram Ambushes Returning WAEC Students And Principa And Slits Their Throats In Broad Daylight

This is brutally cruel.

Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State is about putting behind it the recent killing of six secondary school teachers, including a principal, the local government was again plunged into mourning as many students were, on Saturday, murdered in cold blood by some gunmen suspected to be members of the Jama’atul Ahlis Sunnah Lid’ Awati, also known as Boko Haram.

Sunday Tribune learnt that the gunmen killed many students of Monguno Secondary School by slitting their throats, after laying an ambush for them as they returned home from centres where they wrote the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Monguno is 135 kilometres North of Maiduguri, the state capital; and it is considered to be an epicentre of activities of the Islamist sect.

The gunmen, according to a villager, Mallam Aisami, ambushed the candidates on their way home on foot and bicycles. He added that the assailants tied the students’ hands together at their backs and slit their throats on the foot paths leading to the school premises in the afternoon.

He said when the dastardly deed had been done, the gunmen fled on three motorcycles towards Marte Local Government Area of Northern Borno before men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) rushed to the scene three hours after the students were already slewn.

Spokesman of JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, and the Borno State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Musa Inuwa Kubo, confirmed the incident on Saturday.

They stated that it was a very “unfortunate and frightening incident,” decrying all that had been happening in the state.

Sagir and Kubo could, however, not ascertain the exact number of students allegedly killed by the suspects at Monguno.

Kubo, in a telephone interview, told journalists that; “I am calling on the people of Borno State to continue to pray and fast so that the incessant attacks and killings in the state cease peace and unity are restored.

President Jonathan Grants Amnesty To Boko Haram Sect

If this should happen I find it very troubling. Its just setting a very bad precedent. Indications emerged last night that President Goodluck Jonathan may have resolved to declare amnesty for the Boko Haram sect.
This was the outcome of a meeting between the president and the leadership of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) at the presidential villa, Abuja.

This is even as Jonathan has summoned a security meeting with chiefs in the country, which will be held today at the presidential villa.

Jonathan also used the occasion to deny ever ruling out amnesty for the sect.

The president is expected to set up an amnesty commission to fine- tune details of clemency to the sect members.
