How to 'Kill' Your Friends Or Foes On Facebook

Can you imagine being locked out of your facebook page and your account turned to a memorial page.

Rusty Foster discovered he was dead last week, at least according to Facebook. He had been locked out of his account, which had been turned into a "memorial page," because someone had reported the Maine man as deceased to the social media site.

How to 'Kill' Your Friends Or Foes On Facebook
He tweeted Thursday, "Facebook thinks I'm dead. I'm tempted to just let it," then "Did you know that you can report any of your Facebook friends dead & Facebook will lock them out of their account with no evidence needed?"

BuzzFeed saw his tweet and decided to test how easy it is by "Killing" their editor John Herman

STEPS
1) They Filled out the memorization request form:

2) For the "proof of death", they found an obituary for a guy with a similar name (not even spelled the same!) who was 74 (the real John Herman is 34, so Facebook doesn't even try to match the details provided to the person's real account)

And Viola. . .He is Dead!! When the "dead" person tries to login to their account, this happens:

Have no Fear though, there is hope for a Resurrection. . .just don't expect it to be after 3 days

STEPS ON HOW TO RISE FROM THE DEAD

1) Fill out a Get Me Out of Memorialized State You Jackasses Form (Okay, Okay I made that up)
How to 'Kill' Your Friends Or Foes On Facebook

Then wait!

After Facebook is convinced they are not communicating with a Ghost, you will get this email.

You wait some more

Then Get this email
"It looks like your account was suspended by mistake. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. You should now be able to log in. If you have any issues getting back into your account, please let me know."

And Bam! You are alive again! It's a Miracle!!!!

Twitter To Offer Photo Filters By End Of This Year - Report

Twitter To Offer Photo Filters By End Of This Year - Report
According to sources, the microblogging service is planning to add a variety of photo filters to its official app, and employees of the company are reportedly already testing the new features.

All Things Digital got a tip that such filters would be released on its app before the end of 2012. Meanwhile, The Next Web pointed out numerous telltale photos using black-and-white filters taken and posted by the company's chairman, Jack Dorsey.

Twitter's new photo app might offer pictures in a higher resolution than those of Instagram, according to The Next Web. Twitter's pictures will reportedly be square like Instagram's, but will be offered in 1024×1024-pixel resolution, rather than the latter's significantly smaller 612x612 pixels.

Twitter is apparently moving quickly after Instagram prevented its own photos from showing up properly in the new Twitter Cards. The feature, in Twitter's official application, made it easier to view Instagram photos by attaching them to tweets with links in the timeline. Now, Instagram photos can still be viewed on the Twitter app, but in an awkwardly cropped state. This is not the first we've heard of Twitter filters for photos.

In early November, there were reports from several Twitter sources that the company was preparing a variety of filters that users can apply to pictures uploaded to Twitter. Such a move would allow the company to compete directly against Instagram.

The conflict between Twitter and Instagram has intensified since Instagram was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion in early April of this year. Since then, instead of cooperating against the social network juggernaut, Twitter and Instagram have been at odds. We've contacted Twitter for comment about the existence of a new photo-filter feature, but the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Over Half A Million People Voted Against Facebook’s Governance Changes, BUT...

Fortunately or unfortunately I wasnt one of the 619,000 people that cast their ballot in Facebook’s vote on site governance and policy, and 87% want to block the changes. But unless 299.4 million more people vote by tomorrow morning, Facebook users will lose the ability to vote on future changes, and their data will be intermingled with Instagram. Enough votes won’t be cast, so Facebook’s experiment with “democracy” will be coming to a close.

Truth is Im thinking of leaving facebook, so voting wont really do me any good when I finally leave the site. Where I go next is up to me.

Some think Facebook was never a democracy even with the voting structure since the system made it almost impossible for the results to be binding. This is the third, and likely final Facebook site governance vote, and it may end up drawing the highest turn out ever. It follows one in April 2009 when 665,000 people voted, and another last June where about 342,000 cast their ballots. Facebook got far more than the 7,000 necessary comments on this proposal to trigger the vote. As of now, 544,642 have voted against changes and 75,539 have voted for them.

Unless we see some miracle of digi-civic engagement by tomorrow at noon pacific when the voting period ends, the overwhelming sentiment against the proposed changes will just be taken “under advisory” and Facebook is free to enact the changes. Only if over 30% of all Facebook users vote would their majority decision be binding and could block the new versions of Facebook’s Statement Of Rights and Responsibilities and Data Use Policy.

Facebook Vote Share

To Facebook’s credit, it gave this vote a fair chance. It emailed all its users about the proposal, let people share the fact that they voted or the current results with friends, and showed those posts prominently in the news feed. Facebook could have minimized visibility of the vote with fewer sharing features and less feed presence, but didn’t.

The impact of the governance change will be subtle but important. Facebook will now operate like most other companies. It will listen to its users in more ways that before, but they won’t have a direct channel for affecting site policy. In the end, it’s the public market that will decide if Facebook treats its supporters right. Even if the voting system was largely a farce, without it, Facebook’s one billion users might feel a little less connected to the network that’s supposed to connect them.

You can vote here for either the existing site governance documents or the new proposed changes that remove the vote and permit the combination of Facebook and Instagram data.

Man Charged To Court For Atempted Rape And Murder Facebook Lover

Man Charged To Court For Atempting To Rape Murder Facebook Lover
Another facebook love gone wrong. A 26-year-old man, who allegedly pushed down his Facebook lover from a multi-storey building over a disagreement over sex was arraigned in Lagos on Friday. The accused,  Arthur Obiora, is facing a three-count charge of threat to life, attempted rape and attempt to cause bodily harm at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, ASP A. C. Orji, told the court that Obiora met Nkiruka Akabuogu on Facebook and invited her to a club house in Apapa where they had drinks. The prosecutor said the pair later moved to Obiora’s house at Block 10, Flat 317, 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Orji said Obiora, who claimed to be an unemployed graduate of Igbinedion University Okada and the Centennial College, Ontario, Canada, shut all the doors in the apartment and demanded to have sex with Akabuogu.

“This was after he had smoked some wraps of Indian hemp. He tried to rape her and threatened to kill her with a bottle of beer. The girl, fearing for her life, then jumped down from the third floor of the high/rise building,” Orji said.

The prosecutor said that the incident happened at about 3a.m. on Oct. 31.

“The girl was discovered lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood about 30 minutes later by the security men in the premises who then reported it to the police.
``The police took the girl to a hospital and after she regained consciousness, obtained her statement,’’ Orji said.

“This case highlights one of the major problems of the social media. The young lady went to visit someone she doesn’t know. She met the defendant on Facebook and they had been chatting until Oct. 30,” he said.

Orji said that the offences contravened Sections 56 (A), 260 and 404 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011 The magistrate, Mr Martins Owumi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 21-year-old Nkiruka sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis, and is undergoing treatment at the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, following the incident.

Nkiruka, a Linguistics student of the University of Lagos, had told NAN on her hospital bed that she went clubbing with the young man she met on Facebook a week earlier, and ended up in his family home at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.

She noted that the young man had earlier talked about sex on phone prior to the outing but she told him she was menstruating. Nkiruka said that on getting to the house, the man tore her dress and tried to rape her. According to Nkiruka, the man thereafter pushed her down from the third floor of the building because of her refusal to have sex with him.

But the mother of the young man, who was at home on the night of the incident, told NAN that she was not aware of what happened. She claimed she slept around 10 p.m., while the disagreement between the pair started much later. The magistrate adjourned the case to Nov. 30

Scotland yard Police Returned My Ferrari Cuz Of Arab Money - Wealthy Arab Sheikh Son Brags On Facebook

The Ferrari FF belonged to Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, son of the Emir of Ajman
The supercar, which can reach speeds of 208mph, was seized by police last month
The son of a billionaire sheikh whose £200,000 Ferrari was displayed outside Scotland Yard as a warning to uninsured drivers has bragged how it was returned when police discovered who he was. The supercar was put on show outside the Met HQ to let illegal drivers know that their cars would be seized - whatever they were driving. But the owner of the Ferrari FF, Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi - son of the Emir of Ajman, in the United Arab Emirates - boasted on his Facebook page that the Yard had handed the keys back as soon as they identified him. He wrote online: "Arab money talks"
But a Met spokesman said the owner would have been forced to pay a fine and provide accurate paperwork before the car was returned. The spokesman said: 'In relation to the Ferrari, it has been reclaimed by its owner.

'We can’t talk about the personal circumstances, but to reclaim a vehicle, an owner must pay the fine, recovery fee, storage costs and produce the correct documentation verifying they have valid insurance and possess a licence.'

Rashid, who is known in Ajman by his nickname RRR, short for Rich in Real estate Resources, posted pictures on Facebook of his Ferrari accompanied with the statement: 'My Ferrari got Seized in London, then they found out who i was and gave it back'. In the comments on the post, Sheikh Rashid explained 'I took it to London and I didn’t pay insurance and the BRITISH POLICE took my car away, but then I told them who I was.'

He then wrote 'Arab Money talks' followed by a smiley face emoticon.

The car can reach speeds of 208mph and can go from 0 to 60mph in just 3.7 second

Facebook Users To Be Charged A FEE To Highlight Posts, Im Saying Hmmm

Facebook has begun testing a new feature that would allow users to increase the visibility of their posts
for a fee, in what appears to be a new bid to add more profitability to the social network. “As part of a test starting today, people in the US can promote personal posts to their friends on Facebook,” the company said in a statement Wednesday.

“Sometimes a particular friend might not notice your post, especially if a lot of their friends have been posting recently and your story isn’t near the top of their feed,” it said. “When you promote a post — whether it’s wedding photos, a garage sale, or big news — you bump it higher in news feed so your friends and subscribers are more likely to notice it.”

The option will be made available to users with fewer than 5,000 friends and subscribers, Facebook said. Facebook did not specify the price of the new service, but TechCrunch.com said it would start at $7 per post, making it a potentially major source of profit for the social network, which counts 955 million members.

The testing began in New Zealand in May and has gradually spread to other countries.
A dismal stock market debut in May raised questions about Facebook’s profitability, and since then the company has said it is considering new revenue-generating schemes, including charging for some services.

Last month the company revamped its “Offers” service to require payments, starting at $5 per ad, for the deals offered through Facebook — making companies pay for what had been free advertising until now. Facebook has also added a feature that lets users send real-life cupcakes, coffee, stuffed animals or other gifts to friends in the social network.

The “Gifts” program is being rolled out gradually, starting in the United States, and Facebook stands to get a fee for brokering purchases. The world’s largest social network has seen its stock price sag since its market debut at $38 per share. Shares closed at $21.83 Wednesday.

Woman arrested for calling ex-hubby a Boko Haram member on FB

23-year old mother of one has been arrested by policemen from Ipaja Police Station, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for calling her ex-husband a member of the Boko Haram sect on Facebook, the social interaction site on internet.

The suspect, Afolakemi Mojisola Adeniyi, was arrested following a complaint lodged at the station by her former husband, Alfa Umar Gobir, that his ex-wife posted his picture on facebook and tagged him a member of the Boko Haram.

Umar told the police that he received several calls from friends and associates throughout the weekend, asking him why he joined the sect and that he kept telling them that they were mistaking him for someone else until one of his friends told him to check Facebook.

Umar said he was shocked when he saw his picture on facebook and the words written below the picture read: “This is one of the Boko Haram any time you have contact with him, bomb him.”

Umar further explained: “I was sleeping on Saturday night when I started receiving calls from my friends asking me why I joined the Boko Haram sect. I was surprised since I did not belong to the sect, but one of my friends called me again and said I should go to Facebook. He told me that my picture was there as a member of the sect.

“I was shocked when I saw my picture on the social networking site.”
Umar told the police at Ipaja that very early that day, he went to Ipaja where his ex-wife lived with her parents and reported the case to them.

His ex-wife confirmed to him that she posted the picture on Facebook because he told her that she and her child would die. Umar told the police that few hours after the parents of his ex-wife begged him to forgive her, she posted another one on Facebook saying she did not regret her action.

The second posting reads: “Am nt regrtn of d pic upload by me 2 any 1.”
When Afolakemi was arrested and the police asked her why she did it, she simply said that Umar told her that she and her child would die.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ipaja Police Station, Titiladayo Segun, after listening to both parties, advised Afolakemi and her parents to go and beg the complainant for forgiveness because of the little child they have, adding that with the evidence before him there is no way she would not go to jail should the complainant insist on going to court.

Gobir told the police that he is yet to decide whether to take his ex-wife to court, adding that he needed to consult his family over the matter.

Facebook Will Disappear in 5 to 8 Years - Analyst

Facebook will lose dominance as a major web company in less than a decade, Eric Jackson, founder of Ironfire Capital said Monday on CNBC's Squawk on the Street.

"In five to eight years they are going to disappear in the way that Yahoo has disappeared," Jackson said. "Yahoo is still making money, it's still profitable, still has 13,000 employees working for it, but it's 10 percent of the value that it was at the height of 2000. For all intents and purposes, it's disappeared."

Jackson said there have been three generations of web companies. The first generation was big web portals, such as Yahoo [YHOO 15.01 0.09 (+0.6%) ] , where content was aggregated in one place. The second was the social web with Facebook [FB 26.90 -0.82 (-2.96%) ] and the third generation is companies focused entirely on monetizing the mobile platform, something Facebook will continue to struggle with, Jackson said.

"When you look over these three generations, no matter how successful you are in one generation, you don't seem to be able to translate that into success in the second generation, no matter how much money you have in the bank, no matter how many smart PhDs you have working for you," Jackson said. "Look at how Google [GOOG 578.59 7.61 (+1.33%) ] has struggled moving into social, and I think Facebook is going to have the same kind of challenges moving into mobile."

Last month Facebook acknowledged its mobile challenge in a regulatory filing. The company stated that the growing number of mobile users using Facebook is hard to monetize and "may negatively affect our revenue and financial results."

Jackson's comments on the future of the social network come at a time when Facebook's stock is down about 27 percent from its IPO price of $38 a share, making it the biggest two-week loss of any IPO since 1995.

"The world is moving faster, it's getting more competitive, not less, and I think those who are dominant in their prior generation are really going to have a hard time moving into this newer generation," he said. "Facebook can buy a bunch of mobile companies, but they are still a big, fat website and that's different from a mobile app."
