Why Did Fashola Eradicate Okada And Leave Agberos?!
I cant seem to wrap my head around it. Why was it so easy for Governor Fashola of Lagos State to eradicate commercial motorcycle a.k.a. okada which has its positives and negatives but difficult to eradicate the menace called area boys/agbero/alaye i.e. touts and thugs which has only negatives that infest Lagos environs especially the bus stops? Okada is a NECESSARY EVIL. Agberos are UNNECESSARY EVIL. I dont see any atom of good in agbero.

Okada occupation is populated by people from all over the country and even the continent. Agbero profession is predominantly dominated by Lagosians. Most okada riders are graduates who as a pis aller picked up the trade when they couldnt find jobs, thanks to our job creating government. Agberos are all STACK illiterates. Okada is fraught with road accident risks leaving the victim, injured, maimed, or dead.

Agbero is fraught violence endangering the lives of innocent passers by and the useless life of the agberos too. Okada is a value exchange business, you pay for their service. Agberos are extortionist extorting money from people. Okada fill the transportation need while agbero is just a societal ill that no one needs. On the average okada riders use their income to better their lives and that of their family. Agberos on the average spend their loot on alcohol, drugs and prostitutes.

Rumour has it that the top hierarchical ladder of Lagos government/polity/royal father fatten up courtesy of the proceeds from the extortion business of agberos. Its safe to say anybody who feeds from agbero loot is equally an agbero regardless of the person's office, intellect or social status. Lagos Agbero profession seems to be a cultural heritage just like omonile. Its a despicable culture.

The ills of agbero is inexhaustible.

Okada riders and agberos have a bit of similarities though. Some okada riders seem to have made a path with death and are very reckless on the road. Agberos are equally reckless.

Im not completely against the ban of okada, but against banning okada without providing alternative. Im completely against leaving agberos to run wild and free. Just my two cents.

I said it before this ban on okada without providing alternative is such an elitist policy. He has always wanted to get rid of many people from Lagos, looks like he is targeting the poor now.

JAF leadership has insisted that motorbikes must be permitted to return to commercial operations, arguing that if a BRT lane could be dedicated for Lagbus, the same alternative would work for bikes to operate safely, in opposition to creating mega unemployment in the guise of creating a mega city.

Trekking Festival In Lagos As Okada Transportation Is Banned

Trekking Festival In Lagos As Okada Transportation Is Banned
Trekking Festival In Lagos As Okada Transportation Is Banned
Governor Fashola has given lagosians an early christmas gift. As you prepare for xmas season, better train for the trekking festival, it’s a double celebration and everyone is invited. The heavier your pocket the lesser you train and vice versa. If you wanna LEARN HOW TO TREK, come to Lagos. Im thinking of opening a TREKKING SCHOOL.

My two cents or kobos about the ban is, first this dude Fashola crept in like a lamb now I see a lion dishing out elitist policies. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with banning okada I think the demerits outweigh the merits, but first put an effective and efficient alternative in place before your Dracula policies in place. Every policy has someone who pays for it and another who it pays. A good policy should pay more people while a few people pay for it. This policy seems to pay the few rich who own cars and the masses who don’t own cars and can’t afford taxis pays for it.

“Ma tii ma rii..”, that is Tom, Dick, Hannah, Harry and Wazobia are now trekking to their various destinations in various parts of Lagos as the Lagos State government under the leadership of Gov. Fashola has banned the use okada as a means of transportation.

Oh well if you don’t have a car and can’t pay for a cab, you are a citizen of this new Trek Nation. Have you noticed how hellishly hot it is recently? Now incorporate the scorching heat into an equation with variables like empty stomach, long distance, dusty environment, heavy traffic, carbon monoxide pollution, pickpockets community,  alaye/tout infested vicinity, etc, equals an individual really worn out lock stock and barrel, sweating and smelling worse than shit and probably lost his phone and wallet. That horrible painter will paint sweat patches under peoples’ armpit, especially girls. I really hate the sweat patch under armpits, it disgusts me and makes me wanna throw up. God help you if you are going for an interview.

The motorists don’t even make it easier on the trekking nation. They won’t stop for pedestrians to cross the road not even at zebra crossing. They drive without knowing roads signs and what they mean. But they will blame the okada as the demon on the road that cause all the accidents. To me by default every okada man is at fault until proved otherwise but I support them completely when they are right. Some motorists are worse than all okada nation wrapped in one. You know those drivers that while driving they make up, make out, send text, make calls, etc. Yeah your parents, siblings, friends or even you is one of such terrible drivers.

The irony of this ban is that the same Governor Fashola who during his election campaign distributed motorcycles and helmets to okada riders to win their vote has now turned unto them like a predator on a prey devouring them and their means of livelihood. Could it be he just used them to get what he wanted like the average naija politician and now dint give a damn about them? That is possible, the heart of man is wicked the bible says.

Over 3000 motorcyles or okadas destroyed. Imagine walking into Dangote's companies and destroy them, can that happen?

On the flipside, according to health practitioners walk is good for the body. Yeah but there’s time for everything. You can’t dress up for a wedding and then start excavating the sewage system. So if you are coming to Lagos stay better learn how to trek. Actually put it on your CV and you will get the job.

New Traffic Laws Of Lagos State

There is a new traffic law which prescribes a 3 year jail term for one way offenders and might soon be signed to law. Anyway check out the new laws by the Lagos State Governor below;

(1) Riding a motor – cycle against traffic: 1st time offender – N20,000

Subsequent offender -N30,000 fine

(2) Smoking while driving -N20,000 fine. Click to see the rest...
(3) Failure to give way to traffic on the left at a roundabout – N20,000 fine

(4) Disobeying traffic control – N20,000 fine

(5) Riding motor – cycle without crash helmet for rider and passenger N20,000 or 3yrs imprisonment .

(6) Driving without valid driver’s license – vehicle will be impounded.

(7) Driving with fake number plate – N20,000 and six months imprisonment or both

(8) Any person found guilty of driving on a one – way road will spend three years in prison, with no option of fine.

The law is out already without proper sensitization of the masses, the usual naija modus operandi of putting the cart before the horse. Now all those criminals in various uniforms working for the government will use this to extort and victimize the poor masses. They should clearly and visibly mark all roads that are one way so that road users will see it. The road officials hould stay at the entry point of these roads to direct those that dont know instead of laying ambush in the middle of the road to extort drivers that dont know these one ways. .
