A lot of the artists Edestar Concepts Int'l Limited in collaboration with the
Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation and the Federal
Ministry of Youth Development is introducing the first edition of 'FACE OF
D'NORTH'.
The epidemic of bad press which has weighed down the
nation of recent, especially the northern part, has had an adverse effect on
the economic and social activities of the north. While a lot is being done to
address the unfortunate incidents, little or nothing is done to repair the
damaged image of the north. This image is so battered that people from other
parts of the country and abroad harbor a distorted view of northern Nigeria.
Boko Haramism has been one of the major causes of the
civil unrest in northern Nigeria today, engaged by our youths. Meanwhile, most
of these Nigerian youths are gifted with entertainment in various ways with loads of talents. (It is said
that the idle mind is the devil's workshop.) If these youths are gainfully
empowered with their talents, there will no doubt, be stability in no small
measure in the north.
According to Robert Iyinbor Roberts, Face of D'North;
"It is in line to help salvage this image, the "FACE OF D'NORTH"
was conceptualised, aimed at empowering our youths. This project is a reality
show whereby talented northern youths are brought together and compete against
each other with their various talents, promoting the socio-cultural heritage of
northern Nigeria on skills acquisition. These will include Art & Craft of
various products from the north, Fashion and Style with local fabrics from the
north, cultural display and more.... The best of this contest is crowned the
"Face Of D'North"."
Roberts says; " talent is one of the greatest tools
in the Nigerian entertainment world today that cannot be over-emphasised. Historically,
northern Nigerians have had a whole lot of talented individuals right from
inception especially in the areas of art and crafts. Speaking further, he says;
" one exciting thing about the Face of D'North is that, apart from
promoting talents and giving room to showcase the amazing rich cultural
heritage of the north, it will re-awaken the hidden talents of our northern
youths and get them productive. This is one MAJOR area that the youths can be
empowered and will also help to further promote UNITY and redirect the people's
initiative and perception in northern Nigeria. A first of its kind, this is an
exhibition that will portray a positive cause in the society today."
Will they participate in such a thing?
