A company worker, Jacob Victor, 21, has been arraigned
before an Isolo Magistrate's Court, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, for
allegedly stealing his employer's 650 generators valued at N15 million. He was arrested and arraigned with the buyer,
Chigozie Chukwuka, a trader at Aswani Market, Isolo, Lagos.
While Victor was charged with conspiracy and stealing,
Chukwuka was docked for receiving and buying stolen goods. The 21-year old
employee of Challarams Plc located at Aswani area, Isolo allegedly stole 650
Jinling generators and sold them at a giveaway price to Chukwuka.
Policemen found the missing generators at Chukwuka's shop
and when he was questioned on how they got to his shop, he could not offer any
satisfactory explanation to them. He was promptly arrested. During
interrogation, Chukwuka confessed to the police that he bought them from
Victor. After both of them were arrested, 200 of the stolen generators were
recovered.
They were charged to court for commiting the offences
contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 390 and 427 of the Criminal Code
Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003. They pleaded not guilty and the presiding
magistrate, Mrs M.O. Ajayi, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each with
two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos when they
coukd not meet their bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 24 October
