Mayhem has once been unleashed in wave of violence that gripped  Dakum and Jol villages in Plateau last Friday. Two persons were confirmed killed and at least 30 houses were razed on Friday night in Dakum and Jol villages in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded the areas.

Over 1,000 persons were also said to have been displaced.

The new onslaught came barely 24 hours after the Special Task Force, said about 17 people were killed while 25 cows were either stolen or killed in the same area in the past one week.

Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen invaded the village in the late hours of the day, killing and setting houses ablaze.

The Majority Leader in the state House of Assembly and Member representing Riyom Constituency, Mr. Daniel Dem, on Saturday, decried the spate of attacks in the village, adding that in the past one week, Riyom had been held hostage.

Dem, who described the situation as bad, said the villagers had fled the community for their safety.

He said, “We are tired of this kind of events, as I am talking to you now, arrangement is being made to mobilise riot policemen to the area to collaborate with STF operatives and beef up security.

“Sincerely, I want the security agencies to be up and doing to ensure that permanent peace is restore to the area,” he said.

The lawmaker called on the National and State Emergency Management Agencies to visit the affected villages and supply relief material to the displaced people.

“We don’t know what we are going to do now, the entire village with over 1,000 population has been displaced, their homes have been burnt down completely by the suspected Fulani. We really need the attention of the Federal Government,” he said.

Dem said the displaced villagers were taking refuge at Hoss Primary School while some had fled to Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Kaduna Church Bombings And Violence Leaves 10 Dead, 145 Wounded

Is this a gift an evil sallah gift to Kaduna people? What sort of treatment is this?

KADUNA  (AFP) – A suicide attacker drove a car bomb into a church on Sunday, sparking fierce reprisals that saw a Christian mob burn a man alive in day of a bloody of violence that left at least 10 people dead and 145 wounded.

Christian youths took to the streets of the northern city of Kaduna with machetes and sticks after the blast, targeting those they believed to be Muslims as anger again boiled over due to repeated church bombings in recent months. St. Rita’s Catholic church building, hit by suicide bombers in Kaduna on Sunday. Attackers beat a motorcycle taxi driver near the church, then put his bike on top of him before dousing him with petrol and setting him on fire, an AFP correspondent who saw the violence said. Two other bloodied bodies apparently killed by the mob were seen near the church.

A rescue official on condition of anonymity also spoke of the man being burnt and said rescuers could not save him because the mob was too violent. The mob also attacked an ambulance in the ensuing violence, but there was no indication that rescuers were wounded.

“So far we have eight dead and 145 injured from the church blast,” Musa Ilallah, regional coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, told AFP, noting that his death toll included the suspected bomber. The attacker rammed what residents said was an SUV into St. Rita church, shaking the Malali neighbourhood of Kaduna, a city that has suffered a wave of deadly violence blamed on Islamist extremist group Boko Haram.

“All of a sudden it drove on high speed and rammed into the church wall, forcing its way into the church premises,” said witness Samuel Emmanuel.

“Initially I thought the driver had lost control of the vehicle. Suddenly there was a huge explosion as the car reached the church building. It was dust, fire and smoke all over.”
A spokesman for Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the bomb attack and said rescuers had been rushed to the scene.
“A number of casualties evacuated to hospitals,” said Yushau Shuaib. The incident was suspected to be triggered by a suicide bomber in a car.”

An AFP correspondent said mobs were yelling “why the church?” and some were carrying weapons, including machetes. Local elders were seeking to restore calm. Residents had earlier spoken of clashes having broken out between Christian and Muslim residents. The attack came after Friday’s Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, but it was not clear if there was any link.

In June, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for three suicide attacks on churches in Kaduna state, where the city of Kaduna is located, which led to deadly rioting. Dozens of people were killed in the violence.
Boko Haram’s insurgency in northern and central Nigeria has led to more than 2,800 deaths since 2009. While Muslims have often been its victims, it has in recent months also specifically targeted churches.
President Goodluck Jonathan has said the group is seeking to incite a religious crisis in Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominately Christian south.

Kaduna is a large mainly Muslim city in Nigeria’s north and includes a sizeable Christian population.
Nigerians have grown increasingly frustrated with security forces’ inability to stop Boko Haram attacks, and there have been warnings of more reprisals if the violence continued.
Some Evangelical church leaders in Nigeria have said Christians may be forced to defend themselves if something is not done to address the unrest.

A 26 year old Turkish woman, Nevin Yildirim, a mother of two who lives in a small village in southwestern Turkey is now awaiting trial after beheading a man who she says raped her repeatedly for months and is the father of her unborn child.

Nevin said the man, Nurettin Gider, began the attacks a few days after her husband left in January for a seasonal job in another town, according to a source close to the case. She said Gider threatened her with a gun and said he would kill her children, ages 2 and 6, if she made any noise, according to the source. Gider was said to have sneaked into her house at a point while she was asleep and took pictures of her. One of the pictures shows her pregnant body. Gider threatened to publish the pictures if she didn’t obey him, the source said. However, on August 28, when she was at least five months pregnant by a man who she said continued to rape her, Yildirim said she decided she had had enough. Gider was climbing up the back wall of her house. “I knew he was going to rape me again,” she said at her preliminary hearing August 30.

She said she grabbed her father-in-law’s rifle that was hanging on the wall and she shot him. He tried to draw his gun and she fired again. “I chased him,” she said. “He fell on the ground. He started cussing. I shot his sexual organ this time. He became quiet. I knew he was dead. I then cut his head off.”

According to witness account, Nevin Yildirim walked into the village square, carrying the man’s head by his hair, blood dripping on the ground. “Don’t talk behind my back, don’t play with my honor,” Yildirim said to the men sitting in the coffee house on the square. “Here is the head of the man who played with my honor.”

Boko Haram Claims JTF Killed Innocent People And Not Their Members

The 20 people killed by the Joint Task Force (JTF) at the weekend in Maiduguri were civilians and not members of Boko Haram, the sect has declared

Through its spokesperson, Abul Qaqa, Boko Haram described the JTF claim as a ruse and serial lies, and insisted that the combined squad, which comprises soldiers as well as secret police and conventional police killed innocent people.

Qaqa, who spoke in Hausa, said, “The JTF only brutally killed innocent poor people. There is no way our sect members up to 20 will gather in such environment and hold a council sitting. It is a lie and blatant lie. We are committed and have vowed until a Muslim State is formed in Nigeria and not going back on this.”

Col. Victor Ebhaleme, the Field Operations Officer of JTF in Borno State, told newsmen yesterday that the Saturday night shootout followed an intelligence report that some suspected Boko Haram terrorists were having a meeting at a certain location in the metropolis.

He did not say how the tip was confirmed, but stated that when the JTF approached the area, the terrorists “immediately opened fire on the team.
Twenty of the suspects and one soldier were reportedly killed
